科学

All science courses at Fishburne use laboratories to stimulate the interest of younger students and provide every possible convenience for older participants。The Department of Science offers a coordinated, solid curriculum for university preparation。Science courses are divided into foundation courses and honors courses。Three science laboratories containing the most modern laboratory equipment for use in physical sciences, Earth Sciences, biology, chemistry and Honours science courses。These facilities offer full lecture and laboratory space and meet all safety requirements。

Life science

The life sciences cover a variety of topics, including: discussion of the nature of science;Cell structure and function;Heredity; Also, evolution。In addition, a foundation was established in genetics and DNA;Classification of living things; And the ecology of plants and animals。

Physical science

Physical science is the study of matter and energy。Students often use the scientific method in hands-on LABS。Students have many opportunities to experiment and learn the proper procedures for reporting their findings。The study of
Matter and energy explore all areas of the physical sciences: motion, force, energy, work and machines, electricity, photomagnetism, sound, mirrors and lenses, the classification of matter, the properties of atoms, and the periodic table。

Earth science

In this course, students learn that Earth science is a fusion of many sciences, including geology, meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy。Students explore the processes that change our planet。The course includes an introduction to rocks and structures that formed millions of years ago as a result of many interactions between certain Earth systems。Hands-on laboratory experiments, including video and computer technology, enhance this course through a variety of ways to understand our planet and its place in the universe。

biology

The primary goal of biology is to give students a better understanding of the life forms that inhabit Earth and how they function, develop, and depend on each other。Understanding why life exists involves ecology, evolution, biochemistry, taxonomy, botany, photosynthesis, reproduction, genetics, respiration, human anatomy, and physiology。Activities used to reinforce the concepts taught include laboratory experiments, computer-based activities, and special projects。

化学

The course deals with the composition of matter and the changes it undergoes。Emphasis is placed on man controlling his environment by controlling changes in matter。The course covers chemical formulas, equations, calculations, reactions and elements。Finally, organic chemistry is introduced。Activities used to reinforce the concepts taught include laboratory experiments, computer-based activities, and special projects。Prerequisites: Algebra I, Biology。

物理

Physics is the study of energy and changes in energy forms associated with human control of the environment by controlling changes in matter。The interaction of matter and energy also includes specialized fields such as mechanics, acoustics, optics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, atomics, astronomy, and biometrics。Activities used to reinforce the concepts taught include laboratory experiments, computer-based activities, and special personal projects。Prerequisites: Algebra II, Chemistry。

Environmental science

This is an elective course that focuses on environmental issues such as air, water and land pollution and the proper use of the earth's resources。Students have the opportunity to conduct case studies on major environmental issues。

Anatomy and physiology

The course is designed to give students an understanding of the human body as a whole and how all the different systems operate individually。Topics will aim to build vocabulary and knowledge of:

  • How cells function in body tissues;
  • How the organs of the body interact in the system of the body; And,
  • How do body systems interact throughout the body。

Students will also participate in discussions and physical activities to observe and understand how different activities affect body systems。
